Dr. Appt.

Yes...I had my camera in my purse when Austin broke his arm. I pulled it out and thought the moment was definitely a scrapbook moment. He fell on the monkey bars at school Friday, Dec. 12th and broke the bone in his upper arm just above the elbow. After a lengthy stay at the ER in Atlanta ( I have since decided that was our first mistake)...they sent us home with a splint for the weekend. We went to see the orthopedic specialist on Monday and he put him in a cast. Of course Austin loved having his friends sign it. We go back on Wednesday (tomorrow) and Dr. Dehaan is planning on taking the cast off. He will have worn this cast for 3 weeks and 2 days. As a mother, that terrifies me. The doctor said he doesn't like to leave the cast that goes over the elbow and keeps it bent, on for more than 4 weeks. It would be really hard for Austin to bend his arm straight out again. He told us at the last visit that once the cast came off, his arm would not be completely healed therefore he didn't need to "play". That may be a very difficult thing for an 8 year old boy to do. Send up a little prayer that everything looks good tomorrow and he can take the cast off and maybe send us home with a temporary splint (and Austin has the will power to "not play" when mom and dad are not there). I will post pics of the cast removal soon.
